Michael Oren: new Israeli Ambassador to US

TNR is reporting that Michael Oren is going to be the next Israeli Ambassador to the US.

Michael Oren, who we reported last month was under consideration to be the Israeli ambassador to the U.S., has  been given the post today. Oren, who is a TNR contributing editor, immigrated to Israel from the U.S. in 1979, and is the author of most recently of Power, Faith, and Fantasy: America in the Middle East: 1776 to the Present; he is currently a visiting professor at Georgetown University.

I very much enjoyed reading his “Six Days of War” a number of years ago – it helped that I knew one of his research assistants, Alex P.,  back in 2001.   It also goes to show you that if you spend enough time in Israel, you can be ambassador somewhere.
