Aung San Syu Kyi incarcerated in Insein Prison

May 14, 2009

Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the pro-democracy leader in Burma who has been under house arrest for the better part of 20 years, has been imprisoned by the Burmese junta in Insein Prison, where many political prisoners are incarcerated.  This comes after an odd incident where some American religious nut swam across a lake to her compound for unspecified reasons.

BBC reports:

The “naive acts cause more harm than good”, it says, and while they attract international attention, make little difference for ordinary Burmese people.

I assume the junta has been waiting for a reason to incarcerate Aung San for many years in Insein, and now this loon has delivered her to them.
