a little imagery analysis of the protests in DC

September 12, 2009

I was looking at the photos taken  by various publications of the Freedom Works 9/12 Tea Bag/Wingnut event, and I was scratching my head about one of the stories:

The New York Times published this photo, stating:12protest_650

Tens of thousands of protesters from around the country marched to the Capitol on Saturday to demonstrate against the White House and Congress for what they say is an ever-expanding intrusion of government.

Despite the conflicting, muddled messages (“Jesus is the Messiah” “Cap and Trade” “Acorn” etc.) a closer inspection suggests that a good chunk of the street seems empty,

and not swallowed up by “tens of thousands of protesters.”

So, where are the screaming throngs of anti-Obama people?  Fox News reported that there could be upwards of 2 million folks converging on DC, but this photo suggests otherwise.

You uncovered another conspiracy! Congratulations, we think most of the tea party was diverted to the ACORN recruiting rally that drew 5 people.
